Cracker Barrel French Toast

Cracker Barrel French Toast features sourdough bread dipped in a custard made from eggs, milk, flour, powdered sugar, and vanilla, then cooked until golden and topped with powdered sugar, butter, and maple syrup. The custard coating delivers a slightly sweet, tender center with a crisp, golden surface.

Description

This French toast recipe starts by whisking together eggs, milk, all-purpose flour, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and salt to create a smooth custard mixture, which is strained for consistency. Sourdough bread slices are dipped in this mixture to absorb the flavorful batter before cooking on a butter-brushed skillet heated to about 350°F. The toast cooks quickly, developing a golden brown color on each side.

The toast is finished with a dusting of powdered sugar and served with butter and maple syrup, offering a balance of sweet and rich flavors. Cutting the French toast diagonally is optional but adds a presentation touch.

This recipe yields a tender yet slightly crispy French toast that pairs well with classic breakfast accompaniments.
