Cracker Barrel Sweet Potato Casserole Recipe
Description
This casserole starts by peeling and boiling sweet potatoes until tender, then mashing them smoothly. The mashed base is enriched with white and brown sugars, beaten eggs, milk, softened butter, and seasoning including cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Vanilla extract adds aroma and sweetness. The mixture is combined until uniform.
Spread in a prepared casserole dish, the sweet potato base is topped with a mixture of brown sugar, pecans, and butter, which is heated and whisked together before sprinkling. Baking at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 30 minutes caramelizes the topping and melds the flavors, resulting in a creamy filling under a crunchy nutty crust.
This casserole suits holiday dinners or as a comforting side dish where sweet potatoes' natural sweetness is highlighted by the spiced, buttery topping.
