Cranberry Jalapeno Dip

This Cranberry Jalapeno Dip pairs tart fresh cranberries with the mild heat of jalapeno, lime, cilantro, and green onions blended into a slightly chunky salsa served chilled over softened cream cheese. The combination balances tangy, sweet, and spicy elements with creamy texture, suitable as a flavorful spread for crackers or appetizers.

Description

The dip uses fresh cranberries to achieve a firm texture and bright acidity, while granulated sugar mellows the tartness. Green onions and cilantro add herbal and oniony notes. Diced jalapeno is included with seeds and ribs removed, offering mild heat, but the recipe allows adjusting this for more spice by leaving some seeds. Lime juice adds citrus brightness, and salt enhances the overall flavor balance.

After pulsing these ingredients finely, the mixture is chilled for at least an hour to meld flavors, with 4-8 hours recommended for best results. The dip is served by spooning over a block of softened cream cheese, which adds a creamy base, and paired commonly with crackers for dipping or spreading. Using fresh cranberries is important; frozen ones produce excess liquid and weaken the texture.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 12 ounces cranberries fresh
  • 1/4 cup green onions sliced
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup cilantro leaves
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons jalapeño seeds and ribs removed, diced
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 8 ounce cream cheese softened, block

Instructions

  1. Place the cranberries, onions, granulated sugar, cilantro, lime juice, jalapeno and salt in the bowl of a food processor.
  2. Pulse until everything is finely chopped.
  3. Transfer the cranberry mixture to an airtight container, and chill for a minimum of one hour. It's best to let it sit for 4-8 hours for maximum flavor.
  4. Place a block of cream cheese on a serving platter. Spoon the cranberry mixture over the cream cheese. Serve with crackers.

Notes

  • Use fresh cranberries to prevent excess moisture and ensure firm texture.
  • Keep jalapeno seeds and ribs out for mild heat or include some for more spiciness.
  • Chilling the dip for several hours improves blended flavors before serving.
