Cranberry Jalapeño Dip with Cream Cheese
Description
The dip starts by roughly pulsing fresh cranberries to a coarse texture, then combining them with thinly sliced green onions and diced jalapeños for heat and sharpness. Sugar adds sweetness, offsetting the tart cranberries, while lime juice and salt balance the flavors. After refrigerating for several hours to develop taste, excess liquid is strained for a thicker consistency before optionally folding in chopped cilantro for a herbaceous note.
Presented with a bowl of cream cheese and crackers, the dip is assembled by spreading cream cheese onto a cracker followed by a dollop of the cranberry mixture. The contrast of creamy and tangy-spicy elements makes it an engaging appetizer.
If a food processor is not available, a high-power blender can be used to chop the cranberries, though the texture may vary. For a different presentation, spreading cream cheese thinly on a plate and topping with the cranberry mixture creates a communal dip.
Ingredients
- 12 ounces cranberries fresh
- 3 green onions thinly sliced
- 2 jalapeños diced
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon lime juice fresh
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon cilantro chopped (optional)
- cream cheese
- crackers
Instructions
- In a food processor, pulse cranberries, about 15 to 20 pulses for a rough chop.
- In a medium-sized bowl, add chopped cranberries, green onion, and jalapeños.
- Add sugar, lime juice, and salt and stir gently until blended.
- Refrigerate dip covered for four hours or overnight.
- Take cranberry mixture out of the refrigerator and stir and strain liquid using a colander. Add cilantro, if using.
- Place cream cheese and crackers on platter with bowl of cranberry mixture.
- Spread cream cheese on a cracker and dollop with cranberry dip. Enjoy!
Notes
- If you lack a food processor, using a high-power blender can create a similar chunky cranberry texture.
- For a variation, spread the cream cheese evenly on a serving dish and top with the cranberry mixture for a shared dip.
