Cranberry Relish
Description
Cranberry Relish uses fresh cranberries along with an orange that retains its peel to add a zesty citrus component with natural oils and bitterness from the peel. Sugar balances the tartness of cranberries and the peel's bitterness. Processing all ingredients until smooth creates a thick, spreadable relish. Refrigerating the mixture for at least one hour allows flavors to combine and mellow. The result is a vibrant sauce suitable for serving alongside turkey, chicken, or pork loin.
This relish is served cold or at room temperature and adds a fresh, fruity note to savory dishes. The texture is coarse smooth depending on processing time but holds a pleasant bite from the fruit pieces.
It can be made ahead and stored up to two weeks refrigerated or frozen for up to three months. Thaw thoroughly before serving to maintain texture and flavor.
Ingredients
- 12 ounces cranberries fresh
- 1 orange , peel ON
- 1 cup granulated sugar
Instructions
- Slice the ends off of the orange, just until you see the flesh. Leave the rest of the skin on the orange and slice into 8 wedges.
- Add fresh cranberries, orange wedges and sugar to a food processor and process until smooth (or until no large chunks remain).
- Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving (or up to 1-2 weeks). Serve over turkey, chicken, pork loin etc.
Notes
- This recipe yields about 3 cups of relish with serving size around 3 tablespoons.
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
- For long-term storage, freeze in a suitable container for 2-3 months and thaw fully in the fridge before use.
