Cranberry Salsa

Cranberry Salsa blends fresh cranberries and green onions with cilantro, lime juice, jalapeño, sugar, and salt to create a finely chopped, tangy, mildly spicy condiment. The salsa develops flavor after chilling and is served cold with tortilla chips or cream cheese and crackers.

Description

The recipe starts by pulsing fresh cranberries and complementary ingredients like green onions, cilantro leaves, diced jalapeño (with seeds and ribs removed for mild heat), lime juice, granulated sugar, and salt in a food processor to a chunky, fine consistency. This creates a bright, tart salsa with sweet and spicy accents.

Allowing the prepared salsa to refrigerate for at least an hour, ideally up to 4-8 hours, encourages the flavors to meld and the texture to soften slightly. The resulting salsa offers a refreshing contrast to the sharp cranberries with an herbal freshness from cilantro and a citrus hint from lime juice.

Cranberry Salsa can be served chilled alongside tortilla chips as a dip or spooned over a block of cream cheese paired with crackers, providing a versatile condiment option.

Using fresh cranberries is crucial as frozen ones may release excess water and alter the salsa’s texture. The jalapeño’s seed removal controls the heat level; retaining seeds will increase spiciness for a bolder flavor.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 12 ounces cranberries fresh
  • 1/4 cup green onions sliced
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup cilantro leaves
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons jalapeño seeds and ribs removed, diced
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Place the cranberries, green onions, sugar, cilantro leaves, lime juice, jalapeno and salt in the bowl of a food processor.
  2. Pulse until the ingredients are finely chopped.
  3. Transfer the cranberry mixture to an airtight container, and refrigerate for a minimum of one hour. It's best to let it sit for 4-8 hours for maximum flavor.
  4. Serve with tortilla chips, or spoon it over a block of cream cheese and serve with crackers.

Notes

  • For best texture and flavor, use fresh cranberries rather than frozen.
  • Removing seeds and ribs from jalapeño keeps the salsa mildly spicy; keep some seeds for a hotter version.
