Cranberry Sauce
Description
The recipe for Cranberry Sauce starts by cooking fresh cranberries with pineapple juice, applesauce, and water until the berries soften and begin to burst, releasing their juices. Adding orange juice and zest introduces a fresh citrus flavor that complements the tart cranberries. Sweetening with honey and brown sugar adjusts the taste to a balanced sweetness, making the sauce versatile for savory dishes.
Once simmered and thickened, the sauce is cooled and can be served as a side or condiment, commonly accompanying festive meals. It can be prepared in advance and stored for up to a week refrigerated in an airtight container, permitting convenient use in holiday gatherings or other meals needing a tart-sweet sauce.
Ingredients
- 12 ounces Cranberry fresh whole
- ½ cup pineapple juice
- 4 ounces applesauce (⅓ cup)
- ½ cup water
- 2-4 tablespoons honey
- 1-2 tablespoons brown sugar
- orange juice and zest of 1
Instructions
- Add cranberries to a large saucepan over medium heat along with pineapple juice, applesauce, and water and bring to a boil. Stir about 10 minutes until cranberries start to burst.
