Creamy Baked Tortellini

Creamy Baked Tortellini mixes cooked cheese tortellini with diced ham, peas, and a rich cheese sauce made from butter, garlic, milk, cheddar, and Parmesan cheeses. Baked until bubbly and topped with extra melted cheddar, this dish offers a comforting blend of tender pasta and savory, creamy flavors with a mild herbal note from dried basil.

Description

This recipe starts by cooking refrigerated cheese tortellini according to package directions before combining it with a sauce made by cooking butter, garlic, and dried basil, then thickening with flour. Milk is added gradually and brought to a boil, allowing the mixture to thicken before folding in sharp cheddar and Parmesan cheeses until smooth.

Once the sauce is ready, it is mixed with the cooked tortellini, diced ham, and green peas and poured into a baking dish. The final layer of cheddar cheese is sprinkled on top, and the dish is baked uncovered at 350°F for 15 to 20 minutes until the cheese melts and the casserole is heated through.

This baked pasta casserole provides a creamy texture with pockets of salty ham and sweet peas, balanced by the fragrant basil and garlic in the cheese sauce. It serves well as a filling main course suitable for family meals and casual dinners.
