Creamy Cajun Shrimp Pasta
Description
This recipe begins by cooking linguine according to package directions. Shrimp are tossed with a teaspoon of Cajun seasoning and sautéed in butter until pink and tender, then removed from the pan. Additional butter is melted to soften sliced multi-colored bell peppers, chopped green onions, and white or cremini mushrooms. More Cajun seasoning is sprinkled to enhance the flavor. Heavy cream is added and simmered briefly to create a creamy, spicy sauce. The cooked linguine is then combined with the sauce and vegetables, resulting in an evenly coated pasta. The shrimp are returned on top and a fresh lemon squeeze finishes the dish before serving.
The pasta captures a balance between creamy texture and the warmth of Cajun seasonings including paprika, chili powders, and herbs. The sautéed vegetables add a slight crunch and vibrant color contrast. The shrimp provide a tender, juicy protein component distinct from the sauce while complementing the smoky, spicy notes.
This dish is well-suited to serve as a hearty dinner with a feel of Southern-style flavors in a creamy sauce. It can be paired with a simple green salad or crusty bread to round out the meal. The multi-ingredient Cajun spice blend enhances but does not overpower the fresh components.
Using fresh shrimp and proper seasoning distribution is important to maintain the balance of creaminess and heat. The lemon finish adds brightness that cuts through the rich sauce. Cooking vegetables to tenderness but retaining some bite improves texture variety.
