Creamy Cucumber Salad

Creamy Cucumber Salad combines thinly sliced English cucumbers with red onion in a tangy dressing of mayonnaise, vinegar, fresh dill, sugar, and black pepper. After salting and draining the cucumbers, they are mixed with the flavored dressing and chilled to meld the flavors. The result is a refreshing, cool salad with crisp, moist cucumbers and creamy, slightly tart dressing balanced by aromatic dill.

Description

The salad preparation begins by slicing English cucumbers thinly, then salting them and letting them sit to draw out excess moisture. After draining and lightly patting dry, the cucumbers gain a crisper texture and avoid watery salad. Thinly sliced red onion adds sharpness and crunch, while minced garlic introduces a subtle depth.

The dressing combines mayonnaise with white distilled vinegar for brightness, fresh dill for herbaceous aroma, sugar for a touch of sweetness, and freshly ground black pepper to season. Stirring these ingredients together coats the cucumbers and onions evenly. Chilling the salad for 30 minutes before serving allows the flavors to blend and the salad to cool.

This salad serves as a crisp, creamy side dish that complements grilled or roasted dishes well. Using English cucumbers helps maintain a delicate texture and fewer seeds.

Variations include substituting sour cream completely or partially for mayonnaise to alter the creamy texture and tanginess according to preference.
