Creamy Nutella Crockpot Hot Chocolate

Creamy Nutella Crockpot Hot Chocolate is a rich, slow-cooked beverage combining whole milk, cocoa powder, Nutella chocolate-hazelnut spread, and milk chocolate chips. Simmered gently in a slow cooker, the ingredients meld into a smooth, velvety hot chocolate with nutty, chocolaty depth. It’s ideal for warming drinks adorned with marshmallows, whipped cream, or other toppings.

Description

This hot chocolate recipe uses whole milk as the base, enriched with cocoa powder, generous Nutella, and milk chocolate chips. Cooking on low temperature in a slow cooker for two hours allows the chocolate and hazelnut flavors to fully integrate without scorching. The continual gentle heat produces a creamy texture and deep chocolate flavor.

The drink can be served with various toppings including marshmallows, chocolate syrup, whipped cream, or grated chocolate to enhance its richness. For those preferring an adult version, liquor shots can be added to individual servings to preserve alcohol content.

An alternative method involves heating the mixture in a large saucepan over medium heat, stirring until smooth and gently simmering, providing more control over cooking time and temperature for smaller batches.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 8 cups milk whole
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 13 oz jar Nutella (chocolate hazelnut spread)
  • 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips

TOPPING IDEAS

  • mini marshmallows
  • chocolate syrup
  • Whipped Cream
  • chocolate shaved or grated
  • liquor shot

Instructions

  1. Add milk, cocoa powder, nutella, and chocolate chips to a 4qt slow cooker. Whisk to combine, cover, and cook on LOW for 2 hours... stirring occasionally.
  2. Serve topped with desired toppings!   If adding liquor, add it to individual mugs, rather than the whole slow cooker, so the alcohol doesn't cook off.

Notes

  • Alternatively, prepare this hot chocolate on the stove by heating and stirring ingredients over medium heat until smooth and simmering, then serve.
  • Toppings such as mini marshmallows, whipped cream, chocolate syrup, or grated chocolate enhance the presentation and flavor.
  • If adding liquor, add it to individual servings rather than the whole pot to maintain alcohol content.
