Description
This Creole Seasoning mix brings together sweet and smoked paprika bases with a balanced quantity of kosher salt and pungent garlic and onion powders. Black pepper adds warmth, while the herb blend of oregano, thyme, basil, and parsley introduces an earthy, herbaceous layer. A small amount of cayenne pepper gives a subtle kick without overwhelming the mix.
The blend is easy to combine and can be stored in an airtight container for about six months to maintain freshness. It can be used immediately or reserved for seasoning meats before cooking, sprinkling on vegetables, or as a general all-purpose Creole spice.
Since this mixture contains salt, additional salting of dishes may be unnecessary, allowing for controlled seasoning.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons paprika sometimes just labeled as "paprika", sweet
- 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
- 2 tablespoons kosher salt
- 1 1/2 tablespoons garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 2 teaspoons black pepper freshly ground is best, ground
- 2 teaspoons oregano dried
- 1 teaspoon thyme dried leaves
- 1 teaspoons basil dried
- 2 teaspoons parsley dried
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Instructions
- Place all of the ingredients in a small bowl.
- Stir to combine. Use immediately or store in an airtight container for up to 6 months.
