Crispy Air Fryer Brussels Sprouts

This recipe produces crispy Brussels sprouts cooked in an air fryer, using olive oil, salt, pepper, and optional garlic powder and balsamic vinegar. Halved sprouts achieve a browned exterior and tender interior with a slight caramelization. Drizzling lime juice before serving adds freshness, and they can be enjoyed plain or with a garlic thyme mayonnaise dip. The method also supports oven baking as an alternative.

Description

The Crispy Air Fryer Brussels Sprouts recipe prepares halved Brussels sprouts tossed with olive oil and seasonings, then cooks them at 360°F until lightly browned and crisp on the edges. The air fryer utilizes circulating hot air for even cooking and a crunchy texture without deep frying. Optional additions of garlic powder and balsamic vinegar enhance the flavor complexity, adding savoriness and slight tanginess respectively. Adding lime juice at the end brightens the dish with acidity.

This method focuses on achieving a balance of crispness and tender interior, with a quick cooking time that preserves freshness without overcooking. Compared to traditional roasting, the air fryer reduces total cooking time and produces a consistent char. The recipe also includes an oven method for those without an air fryer, recommending 400°F for 20-25 minutes.

These Brussels sprouts work well as a side dish or snack. Their crispness pairs with various mains and can be complemented by dips such as garlic thyme mayonnaise. The notes emphasize using similar sized sprouts for even cooking and suggest batch cooking when doubling the recipe to maintain quality.

Additional practical advice includes cooking from frozen petite Brussels sprouts at a slightly higher temperature and longer time to reduce moisture. Variations like tossing with buffalo sauce or adding parmesan and breadcrumbs before cooking offer different flavor and texture profiles.

Notes

  • Use similar-sized Brussels sprouts for even cooking and arrange in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
  • When cooking frozen petite Brussels sprouts, increase temperature to 380°F and cook 2-4 minutes longer to evaporate moisture.
  • For larger quantities, cook in batches; subsequent batches may cook faster due to residual heat.
  • Flavor variations include tossing sprouts in buffalo sauce or adding parmesan and breadcrumbs before cooking for extra texture.
