Crispy Air Fryer Chicken Wings Recipe

Report
This recipe yields crispy chicken wings cooked in an air fryer using basic seasoning of salt and pepper, with a light oil coating to promote crispiness. The wings are cooked in two stages with a flip in between, resulting in browned, crispy skin and tender meat inside. The simple seasoning makes it a versatile base for additional sauces or toppings.

Description

The Crispy Air Fryer Chicken Wings Recipe uses 18 wings tossed with vegetable oil, salt, and black pepper. The wings cook at 400°F for two 13-minute intervals, flipped halfway, which crisps the skin and cooks the meat thoroughly. The air fryer concentrates heat and promotes browning, creating a textured crispness on the exterior without frying in oil.

The wings at this stage are simply seasoned, showcasing the savory flavor of the chicken with a straightforward salt and pepper profile. The oil brush ensures the skin crisps rather than steams.

After cooking, these wings can be eaten as is or dressed with sauces such as BBQ, buffalo, or topped with Parmesan cheese, allowing customization to taste preferences or occasions.

Variations include tossing wings in sauce before or after cooking, or seasoning differently. Cooking in batches is recommended for best crispiness.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 18 chicken wings
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees for 5 minutes
  2. use a paper towel or pastry brush to brush the inside of the air fryer basket with vegetable oil
  3. Place the chicken wings in the air fryer (you can stack them but more skin that is exposed the crispier they will be). I suggest you cook in two batches.
  4. Season with the salt and pepper.
  5. Cook for 13 minutes.
  6. Flip the chicken wings over and cook for an additional 13 minutes.
  7. Remove from the air fryer. You can eat them just like this and they are amazing. Or you can try one of our suggestions in the post.

Notes

  • Brushing the air fryer basket with oil prevents sticking and aids crisping.
  • For BBQ wings, brush cooked wings with about 1/4 cup BBQ sauce before serving.
  • Buffalo wings can be tossed in buffalo sauce before or after air frying.
  • Garlic Parmesan wings are made by seasoning with garlic salt and pepper and topping with 1/4 cup grated Parmesan after cooking.
  • Cooking wings in two batches helps maximize skin exposure to heat for better crispiness.
