Crispy Air Fryer Shrimp
Description
Crispy Air Fryer Shrimp relies on a two-step coating process: first dredging in a seasoned flour mix, then dipping in beaten egg, and finally coating with a blend of seasoned breadcrumbs and panko. The air fryer cooks the shrimp at 400°F, producing a golden, firm crust with a tender shrimp inside. Flipping the shrimp midway ensures even cooking and crispness on all sides. The use of lemon pepper and garlic powder seasoning layers a mild aromatic flavor on the shrimp, complementing their natural sweetness.
This method minimizes oil use compared to traditional frying while preserving the crunch and texture. The shrimp are best enjoyed fresh and hot. Serving with cocktail sauce adds a tangy, zesty contrast to the savory, crispy shrimp.
Leftover shrimp keep well in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. Reheating in a 350°F oven restores crispiness without overcooking. Smaller shrimp sizes may need slightly less cook time to avoid toughness.
Ingredients
- ¼ cup all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ teaspoons lemon pepper seasoning
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon salt or to taste
- ⅓ cup seasoned bread crumbs
- ⅓ cup panko bread crumbs
- 2 large egg beaten
- ¾ pound Shrimp with tails, peeled and deveined, large
- cooking spray
Instructions
- Combine flour and half of the seasonings. In a separate bowl, combine bread crumbs and remaining seasonings.
- Preheat air fryer to 400°F for 5 minutes.
- Toss shrimp in the flour mixture. Remove a shrimp from the flour mixture and dip in egg and then into the breadcrumb mixture. Repeat with remaining shrimp.
- Lightly spray shrimp with cooking spray.
- Add a single layer of shrimp to the air fryer basket. Cook 4 minutes.
- Flip shrimp over, spritz with cooking spray and cook an additional 4 minutes or just until cooked through and crispy.
- Repeat with remaining shrimp.
- Serve with cocktail sauce.
Notes
- Adjust cooking time by one minute less for smaller shrimp to prevent overcooking.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
- To reheat, place shrimp on a baking sheet and warm in a 350°F oven for about 10 minutes to regain crispiness.
