Crispy Baked Buffalo Wings Recipe
Description
Crispy Baked Buffalo Wings Recipe combines the dryness of coated wings with baking powder and seasonings to create a crispy crust after baking at 450°F on a rack. The wings are dried thoroughly before baking to maximize crispness, then flipped halfway through to brown evenly. The finishing sauce blends cayenne pepper sauce, melted butter, and honey for a spicy, sweet glaze.
The baked wings retain juiciness while crisp on the outside, avoiding the heaviness of deep frying. Tossing the wings immediately in the warm sauce allows the flavor to coat thoroughly without softening the crispy skin too much. Garlic powder and black pepper add depth to the seasoning blend applied before baking.
Serve these buffalo wings warm alongside blue cheese or ranch dressing to balance the heat and add cooling flavor contrast. These wings are a classic appetizer or snack option with a manageable cleanup due to baking versus frying.
Ingredients
- 2.5-3 pounds chicken wing often called party wings, trimmed
- 2 teaspoons baking powder (aluminum-free)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper ground
- 5 ounces cayenne pepper sauce (Frank's RedHot Original)
- 5 tablespoons butter
- 3 1/2 tablespoons honey
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F. Set a baking rack on a large rimmed baking sheet. Spray the rack with nonstick cooking spray.
- Use paper towels to thoroughly squeeze and dry every single wing. The drier the wings are, the crispier they will get.
- In a large bowl, mix the baking powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Add the wings to the bowl and toss to coat. Lay the wings on the baking rack, making sure they do not touch.
- Bake for 30 minutes. Then use tongs to flip the wings. Bake another 15-20 until very brown and crispy.
- Meanwhile, set a small saucepot over medium heat. Add the cayenne pepper sauce, butter, and honey. Once the butter has fully melted, whisk into a smooth sauce, then turn off the heat.
- Once the chicken wings come out of the oven, move them to a large bowl and pour the hot wing sauce over the top. Toss to coat. Serve warm!
Notes
- Ensure wings are completely dry before coating for maximum crispiness.
- Serve alongside blue cheese or ranch dressing to mellow the heat.
