Crispy Baked Tofu

Crispy Baked Tofu is made from super-firm tofu cubes coated lightly with olive oil, salt, pepper, and a dusting of cornstarch, then baked until golden and crisp on the outside. The result is tofu with a crunchy exterior and a tender inside, suitable as a protein addition to various dishes or snacks.

Description

This recipe starts by pressing and draining firm tofu to reduce moisture, then cutting it into cubes. The tofu is tossed with olive oil, salt, and pepper, followed by cornstarch to form a light coating that crisps in the oven. Baking at 400°F on a lined sheet for 30 minutes, turning every 10 minutes, ensures even crisping on all sides. Once finished, more salt can be added to taste.

The baked tofu has a crunchy outer layer from the cornstarch and baking method while retaining a soft interior. The seasoning is simple, allowing the tofu to be versatile for use in salads, bowls, wraps, or as a snack.

Using super-firm or extra-firm tofu and pressing it well are key to achieving the best crispness. Spreading tofu cubes in a single layer with space between pieces improves air circulation and texture.

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • salt pinch
  • black pepper pinch
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

  3. Add the cornstarch and toss to coat the tofu. Rinse and dry the bowl. Set aside.

  5. Once ready, carefully put the tofu in the bowl and sprinkle a little more salt. Toss and enjoy.

Notes

  • Use super-firm or extra-firm tofu to reduce moisture and ensure crispiness.
  • Press the tofu well to remove excess liquid before cooking for better texture.
  • Coating tofu with cornstarch is essential to achieve a crunchy exterior when baked.
  • Avoid overcrowding the baking pan so tofu pieces can crisp evenly on all sides.
