Crispy Homemade Egg Roll Recipe
Description
The recipe begins with cooking ground pork seasoned with ginger, garlic, onion powder, and Chinese five-spice powder. Once the pork is browned, coleslaw or a cabbage and carrot mix is added and softened slightly. The mixture is cooled before being portioned onto egg roll wrappers. Wrappers are folded into triangles, sealed with a flour-water paste, and rolled tightly to encase the filling.
Egg rolls are then fried in hot canola oil until lightly browned and crispy on all sides. The included sesame sauce combines garlic, red pepper flakes, soy sauce, honey, orange juice, ginger, lime juice, sesame seeds, and sesame oil, cooked to meld flavors, and served chilled alongside the egg rolls to provide a sweet, tangy, and slightly spicy dipping option.
These egg rolls make excellent appetizers or snacks, and the recipe also offers options to bake or air fry them for a less oily version, with directions on temperature and cook times for each method.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground pork
- 1 tablespoon ginger grated fresh
- 1 clove garlic minced
- 1 teaspoon onion powder

- Fry egg rolls until lightly browned and crispy turning occasionally.
- Serve with sesame sauce.
Notes
- Nutrition values do not include the oil used for frying since cooking methods vary.
- To bake the egg rolls, brush or spray with oil and bake at 400°F for 18-22 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden brown.
- For air frying, preheat to 390°F, spray egg rolls with cooking spray, and cook 8 minutes, flip and cook 3-5 more minutes until crisp.
