Crispy Honey Garlic Baked Chicken Wings

Crispy Honey Garlic Baked Chicken Wings feature wings coated with a seasoned cornstarch mixture baked until crisp, then coated in a honey garlic sauce made from soy sauce, honey, tomato passata, sesame oil, and garlic powder. The wings develop a balance of sweet, savory, and smoky flavors with a slightly sticky glaze.

Description

This recipe uses two pounds of chicken wings tossed with olive oil and a seasoning blend containing kosher salt, cornstarch, black pepper, smoked paprika, and garlic powder. Baking at 400°F for 30 minutes, flipping halfway, crisps the wings. Then, a honey garlic sauce combining low-sodium soy sauce, honey, tomato passata, toasted sesame oil, and garlic powder is drizzled over the wings before baking an additional 10 minutes to set the glaze.

The cornstarch ensures a crispy skin by absorbing moisture and helping the seasoning adhere. The sauce adds a glossy finish that is flavorful but not overly sweet. The garlic and smoked paprika impart savory depth, while honey adds subtle sweetness.

These wings are suitable as a snack, appetizer, or part of a meal, often paired with dipping sauces or fresh herbs like parsley for garnish. The recipe is practical for oven baking, avoiding frying.

Leftovers keep well refrigerated up to four days and can be reheated. Maple syrup can substitute honey. Serve with vegetables such as celery or carrot sticks to balance richness.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 pounds chicken wings
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 ½ tablespoons cornstarch
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper ground
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Honey Garlic Sauce

  • ¼ cup soy sauce low-sodium
  • ½ cup honey or maple syrup
  • ½ cup tomato passata or use 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil toasted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Optional

  • parsley freshly chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 F and line a large baking tray with parchment paper. In a small bowl combine all the seasonings. (1 teaspoon Kosher salt, 1 ½ tablespoons cornstarch, ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper, 1 teaspoon smoked paprika, and 1 teaspoon garlic powder).
  2. Add the 2 pounds chicken wings to the prepared baking tray and drizzle with the 2 tablespoons olive oil. Sprinkle with the seasoning mix, then mix very well to coat.
  3. Bake for 30 minutes flipping halfway.
  4. Meanwhile, in a small bowl combine all the Honey garlic sauce ingredients (¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce, ½ cup honey, ½ cup tomato passata, 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seed oil, and 1 teaspoon garlic powder)
  5. Once the chicken wings are done, drizzle with the sauce and stir to combine
  6. Return to the oven and bake for 10 more minutes. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley, if desired.

Notes

  • Cornstarch helps create extra crisp skin and improves seasoning adhesion on the wings.
  • Maple syrup can replace honey in the sauce with a similar sweet flavor.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to four days to maintain freshness.
  • Serve these wings with dips like blue cheese or ranch dressing and fresh veggies such as celery or carrots for a balanced snack.
