Crispy Microwave Bacon
Description
This recipe for Crispy Microwave Bacon involves arranging slices on paper towels atop a microwave-safe plate, topped with additional layers of paper towels to absorb excess grease. Microwaving on high until the desired crispness is achieved produces crisp, evenly cooked bacon slices with reduced cleanup. The recommended timing depends on microwave wattage and bacon thickness but generally starts at about four minutes for medium-thickness slices.
The method makes crispy bacon that can be eaten immediately or reserved for cold dishes. Adjustments to cooking time help control the texture, from chewy to crispy. Care is needed when handling hot plates after microwaving.
This quick cooking approach suits small batches and minimizes grease splatters. Leftover bacon stores well refrigerated for up to four days and reheats gently under a paper towel in the microwave to maintain crispness without overcooking.
Ingredients
- 8 ounces Bacon 1 package, 8 medium-thickness slices
Instructions
- Place two paper towels on a microwave-safe dinner plate.
- Arrange four slices of bacon on the paper towels, not touching each other.
- Place two more paper towels on top of the bacon slices.
- Microwave the bacon on high until crispy. In my microwave (1000 watts), it takes 4 minutes. However, it's a good idea to check after three minutes.
- Remove the plate carefully from the microwave. It will be very hot. Use the edges of the paper towels to hold it, or use oven mitts. Remove the bacon slices from the paper towels quickly, or they will stick to them.
- Repeat with the four remaining slices. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Check bacon after three minutes as microwave wattage and bacon type affect cooking time; add time in small increments as needed.
- Starting with shorter times produces chewier bacon; fully cooked texture requires monitoring to avoid burning.
- Use oven mitts or paper towels to handle the hot plate safely when removing it from the microwave.
- Store leftover cooked bacon in an airtight container or resealable bag in the refrigerator for up to four days.
- Reheat bacon covered with a paper towel in the microwave to retain texture, or enjoy it cold.
