Crispy Slow Cooker Turkey Breast

This recipe for Crispy Slow Cooker Turkey Breast uses a whole bone-in turkey breast seasoned simply with kosher salt and cracked black pepper. The turkey is cooked skin side up in a slow cooker without any added liquid, allowing the meat to become tender while maintaining a juicy interior. For a crispy finish, the skin can be browned briefly under the broiler or by slightly opening the slow cooker lid near the end of cooking to release steam.

Description

The Crispy Slow Cooker Turkey Breast recipe centers on a 5-6 pound bone-in turkey breast cooked in a slow cooker at low heat for 5-6 hours. The minimal seasoning of kosher salt and cracked black pepper enhances the natural flavor of the turkey without overwhelm. Cooking without liquid relies on the turkey’s own moisture to tenderize the meat slowly, resulting in juicy slices.

The turkey is placed skin side up to allow the skin to dry somewhat while cooking. To achieve a crispy skin, which is uncommon in slow cooker recipes, the cooking can end with a brief broil in the oven or by loosening the cooker lid to let steam escape and reduce moisture around the skin, promoting crispiness.

This method is practical for making turkey breast with tender meat and a crisp skin without needing to roast the whole bird. It is well-suited for family meals where the focus is on juicy white meat enhanced only by simple seasoning. The recipe avoids added liquids or complex marinades, emphasizing straightforward preparation and texture control.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 turkey breast , skin and bone on (5-6 pounds)
  • kosher salt
  • black pepper cracked

Instructions

  1. Add salt and pepper to taste (I do about 1 teaspoon Kosher salt and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper).
  2. ADD NO LIQUIDS AT ALL.
  3. Put the turkey skin side up and cook on low for 5-6 hours.
  4. If you have any issues with the skin crisping, you can brown under a broiler, six inches from the heat, for 1-2 minutes or let it cook with the top slightly opened for the last hour to let any steam escape.
