Crispy Smashed Potatoes

Crispy Smashed Potatoes are made by boiling Yukon Gold potatoes until fork-tender, then smashing each one to flatten before drizzling with melted butter infused with garlic. A sprinkle of kosher salt, black pepper, fresh thyme leaves, and shredded Parmesan cheese adds flavor and a crisp, golden finish when baked. The method creates potatoes with a tender interior and crunchy, flavorful exterior, ideal as a side dish.

Description

This recipe for Crispy Smashed Potatoes begins by boiling whole Yukon Gold potatoes until they reach fork-tender doneness. After draining and drying, they are arranged on a baking sheet and gently smashed using a glass bottom or potato masher to flatten them while keeping the skin intact. This increases the surface area to create crispy edges during baking.

The potatoes are then coated with a melted butter and minced garlic mixture to infuse flavor and moisture. Seasonings of kosher salt, freshly ground black pepper, and fresh thyme leaves are added before topping the potatoes with shredded Parmesan cheese. Baking at 425°F crisps the edges and melts the cheese into a lightly golden crust, contrasting with the soft, fluffy interior of each potato.

This side is suited for pairing with various main dishes and offers a rustic, textured potato experience with garlic and herb notes. The use of fresh thyme and Parmesan highlights classic savory flavors.
