Crock Pot 15 Bean Soup with Ham

Report
This hearty Crock Pot 15 Bean Soup with Ham brings together a variety of beans, diced ham, garlic, onion, chili powder, tomatoes, and chicken broth slow-cooked until tender. The long cooking time enriches the flavors, providing a comforting, thick soup with a smoky depth from the ham. Optional hot sauce allows customization for some heat.

Description

The Crock Pot 15 Bean Soup with Ham starts with rinsing and sorting a pre-packaged 15 bean soup mix that includes a seasoning packet. Diced ham, onion, garlic, chili powder, canned diced tomatoes, and chicken broth are combined in a slow cooker, where the ingredients cook over several hours on low, tenderizing the beans and melding the flavors. The ham adds a savory, smoky character, balanced by the mild heat from the chili powder and fresh acidity from the tomatoes. The soup is typically thick and filling, making it a substantial meal option. Hot sauce can be added at serving for those who prefer a spicier profile.

Instructions

  1. Rinse beans and drain. Sort out any unwanted debris.
  2. Place the beans and the seasoning packet in a 6 quart slow cooker.
  3. Add the ham, onion, seasoning, and broth.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 7-8 hours or until beans are tender. You can cook on high for 5 hours, but I prefer this recipe cooked on low.
  5. Once beans are tender. Stir and serve. Some people like a little kick by adding some hot sauce to their servings.
  6. Enjoy!
