Crock Pot Balsamic Beef Recipe
Description
The Crock Pot Balsamic Beef Recipe uses a chuck roast seasoned simply with kosher salt and cooked on low heat in a slow cooker alongside a mixture of beef broth, balsamic vinegar, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce. This combination infuses the meat with a gentle acidity from the vinegar and sweetness from the brown sugar, complementing the meaty richness.
The extended cooking time of 8 to 10 hours allows the roast to become tender enough to shred easily with forks, creating a texture that can be used for sandwiches, served over rice or potatoes, or enjoyed alone. The meat then simmers briefly in the cooking liquid to absorb flavors.
This recipe offers a practical approach to making flavorful slow-cooked beef without complicated steps or many ingredients. It can be prepared ahead, frozen before cooking, and reheated for convenience.
Freezing is recommended in sealed, freezer-safe bags with air removed, preserving flavor for up to three months. When ready to eat, thaw in the refrigerator and cook as directed. Kosher salt is preferred for seasoning due to its milder saltiness, with sea salt as a substitute; table salt quantities should be reduced.
Ingredients
- 3 pounds chuck roast boneless
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 cup beef broth or beef stock
- 2/3 cup balsamic vinegar
- 2 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- Place roast in crockpot. I use a 5 quart slow cooker.
- Sprinkle roast with salt.
- In a small bowl, stir together broth, vinegar, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce.
- Pour the broth mixture around the roast.
- Cover, and cook on low for 8-10 hours.
- Shred beef with two forks, and return to crockpot.
- Continue cooking for an additional 30-60 minutes.
Notes
- Use kosher salt or sea salt instead of table salt to avoid over-salting; if using table salt, reduce the amount by half.
- Beef broth or stock can be used interchangeably; reduced-sodium versions are preferred for controlled saltiness.
- Light or dark brown sugar may be used with similar results.
- To freeze, place all ingredients in a freezer-safe container or bag, remove excess air, and freeze for up to three months.
- Thaw frozen portions in the refrigerator before cooking to follow the recipe steps.
