Crock pot black eyed peas
Description
This recipe starts by soaking dry black-eyed peas overnight to reduce cooking time and improve texture. After draining, the peas are placed in a crock pot with chicken broth, canned diced tomatoes, diced ham or ham bone for depth, diced onion, minced garlic, and black pepper. The mixture is cooked on low for 10 hours or high for 6 hours without opening the lid, allowing flavors to meld and the peas to become tender.
The resulting dish offers soft black-eyed peas in a brothy base filled with savory ham and tomato flavors. This slow cooking method enhances the taste and texture compared to stovetop cooking.
The crock pot black-eyed peas can be served as a side dish or as part of a main meal. The recipe notes an option to skip soaking by cooking on high for 7 hours, which is useful for shorter preparation times.
