Ingredients

  • 1 14- ounce diced tomatoes canned
  • 1 pound ground bison or ground meat of choice
  • 1 sweet potato chopped into 1-inch chunks, large
  • 1 yellow onion finely chopped
  • 1 carrot peeled and chopped, large
  • 1 pasilla pepper chopped, or bell pepper
  • 5 cloves garlic minced
  • 6 baby bella mushroom quartered
  • 2 cups chicken broth low-sodium
  • 3 tablespoons chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon garam masala seasoning optional
  • 1 teaspoon salt to taste, sea salt
  • 3 tablespoons whisky
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup optional

Instructions

  1. Add the ingredients to the crock pot in the order they appear. Leave the ground bison (or ground meat of choice) as is, without breaking up the meat. Gently stir the contents of the crock pot.
  2. Cover the crock pot and cook on the lowest setting for 8 hours, or until the sweet potato is cooked through. After 5 or 6 hours, break up the meat using a wooden spoon or spatula and stir well.
  3. Taste chili for flavor. If desired, add more seasoning and/or salt. For a thinner consistency, add more broth.
  4. Serve chili with desired toppings, and enjoy!
