Crock Pot Ham with Brown Sugar
Description
This recipe uses a large spiral-cut ham cooked gently in a slow cooker coated with a brown sugar rub and topped with maple syrup and pineapple juice. The slow cooking allows the ham to warm fully while the sugars meld into a sweet, sticky glaze that coats the surface.
After cooking, the ham is transferred to a platter for serving. The remaining cooking liquid is simmered on the stove to reduce and thicken slightly, concentrating the sweet and fruity flavors. If desired, corn starch mixed with cold water can be added during simmering to thicken the glaze further. The sauce is poured over the ham before serving, complementing the savory, smoky meat with a glossy, flavorful topping.
Garnishing with fresh herbs adds a touch of color and mild earthy contrast. This dish is suitable for holiday meals or large gatherings.

- Place the ham cut side down in the crock pot.
- Rub the brown sugar all over the ham, then pour the maple syrup and pineapple juice over the top.
- Cook for 3-4 hours on low heat, or until a thermometer registers 140 degrees F when inserted into the thickest part of the ham.
- Transfer the ham to a serving platter.
- Pour the liquid from the bottom of the crock pot into a medium sized pan.
- Place the pan over medium-high heat and bring the liquid to a simmer.

Notes
- For a thicker glaze, whisk 1 tablespoon of corn starch and 2 tablespoons of cold water and add during sauce simmering to thicken.
- Use pure maple syrup rather than artificially flavored syrups for better taste and authenticity.
- The ham is cooked until a thermometer reads 140°F in the thickest part for safe and moist results.
