Crock Pot Pork Chops (with Mushrooms)
Description
Crock Pot Pork Chops (with Mushrooms) uses thick, bone-in pork chops coated with a simple flour, salt, and pepper blend, which are browned to lock in juices and add texture. The cooking process then involves layering the browned pork with golden sautéed onions and browned mushrooms, all slowly simmered in broth for six hours. This method results in pork that is tender and flavorful, complemented by the earthiness of the mushrooms and the sweetness of the caramelized onions. The flour coating helps thicken the liquids slightly, creating a light sauce. This dish is practical for hands-off cooking and provides a satisfying main for any meal occasion.
The pork chops develop a tender texture by cooking on low heat for an extended time, allowing the flavors of the broth, onions, and mushrooms to meld. Browning the meat before slow cooking ensures a nice crust while preserving moisture inside. The pan sauces enhanced by the browned bits from searing transfer rich umami to the slow cooker.
This dish pairs well with mashed potatoes or cooked grains to soak up the mushroom-infused cooking liquid. It is ideal for a filling dinner when you want a home-cooked meal prepared with minimal active time.
