Crock Pot Pulled Pork Recipe
Description
This recipe utilizes a four-pound pork shoulder rubbed with salt and black pepper, placed in the crock pot with water and liquid smoke to impart a smoky flavor. The pork cooks on low heat for 8 to 10 hours until very tender. Once out of the cooker, it is shredded using forks for a traditional pulled pork texture.
After shredding, the pork is returned to the crock pot with barbecue sauce, warming through for about 20-30 minutes to absorb sauce flavors. The result is moist, smoky, and tender pulled pork ideal for sandwiches or served alongside traditional sides.
Ingredients
- 4 pounds pork shoulder or pork loin, boneless
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper ground
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 2 cups water
- 1 Tablespoon hickory-flavored smoke
- 2 cup barbecue sauce
Instructions
- Rinse the pork shoulder and pat dry. Rub salt and pepper over the pork and place in a crock pot.
- Add water and liquid smoke to crock pot. Cover crock pot and cook on low heat for 8 to 10 hours, until the pork is very tender.
- Remove the pork from the crock-pot and discard the remaining liquid. Shred the pork using forks.
- Place the pork back in the crock-pot along with the barbecue sauce, stir to combine. Continue to cook for another 20-30 minutes until the pork is hot again. Serve on buns with extra barbecue sauce.
