Crock Pot Tator Tot Casserole

Report
This Crock Pot Tator Tot Casserole layers browned ground beef and a creamy mushroom soup base with frozen tator tots and cheddar cheese for a comforting, hearty dinner. Slow cooking allows flavors to meld, and topping with extra cheese near the end creates a melted, golden crust. It’s a hands-off dish ideal for filling family meals.

Description

The casserole starts with browned ground beef mixed with cream of mushroom soup, garlic, salt, and pepper, providing a creamy, savory filling. Half of the shredded cheddar cheese is stirred in early, integrating cheesy flavor, while frozen tator tots are spread over the top to add a crispy, golden surface once cooked.

Cooking on low heat in a crock pot for several hours lets the ingredients meld and the tator tots freeze-thaw without becoming soggy. Adding the remaining cheese near the end gives a melted, browned finish. The casserole combines multiple textures—from creamy beef mixture to crispy golden tater tots—making it filling and flavorful with minimal effort.

This flexible casserole can be modified by adding taco seasoning and other ingredients to alter the flavor profile. It suits casual dinners and can be made ahead or reheated easily.

  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 2 teaspoons garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt

  3. Top with half of the cheese.
  4. Then spread out the tator tops evenly over the crock pot.
  5. Cover and cook on low for 2-3 hours. Or cook on high but reduce cooking time.

  7. Salt and pepper to taste.

Notes

  • You can enhance creaminess by adding an extra can of cream of mushroom soup.
  • For a taco variation, add taco seasoning and a can of Rotel or salsa to the beef mixture.
  • Cooking on low for 2-3 hours yields tender results; adjust time if cooking on high.
