Crockpot Dr Pepper Ribs

Report
Crockpot Dr Pepper Ribs are made with baby back pork ribs slow-cooked in a combination of Dr Pepper soda, barbecue sauce, minced garlic, black pepper, and liquid smoke to infuse smoky sweetness and tenderize the meat. The ribs are cooked until tender in the slow cooker and finished under the broiler to develop a slight caramelized crust. This method results in ribs with flavorful, moist meat that pairs with additional barbecue sauce for serving.

Description

This recipe starts by preparing baby back pork ribs with the membrane removed, then cutting them into manageable pieces to fit the slow cooker. They are layered with liquid smoke, barbecue sauce, Dr Pepper soda, minced garlic, and black pepper before being cooked on low heat for 8 to 9 hours. The slow cooking process allows the ribs to absorb the sweet and smoky flavors while becoming very tender.

After slow cooking, the ribs are placed on a foil-lined pan and broiled for a few minutes to develop a slight browning and firmer exterior, improving texture contrast. Serving with extra barbecue sauce complements the sweet and savory notes from the cooking liquid.

This technique produces tender ribs with a balance of smoky, savory, and sweet flavors from the combination of liquid smoke, Dr Pepper, and barbecue sauce, suitable for a slow-cooked meat dish enjoyed with classic barbecue accompaniments.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 4 lbs baby back pork ribs
  • 2 Tbsp liquid smoke
  • 2 Cups barbecue sauce
  • 1.5 Cups Dr Pepper soda
  • 2 tsp garlic minced

  1. Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs. I use a knife to get one end of the membrane up on one side and then gently pull it off the rest of the ribs.
  2. Cut the ribs into 3 pieces and add to the slow cooker.
  3. Add in all the other ingredients on top of the ribs in the crock pot.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 8-9 hours.
  5. Once done, place on a foiled line cooking sheet and broil for 3-5 minutes until the ribs are slightly browned.
  6. Serve with additional barbecue sauce and enjoy!
