Crockpot Green Bean Casserole

This crockpot green bean casserole blends frozen green beans with cream of mushroom soup and Parmesan cheese, cooked slowly to meld flavors. French-fried onions added before and after cooking provide crispy texture contrasts. The slow cooker method simplifies preparation and yields a creamy, savory side dish.

Description

The casserole starts by layering frozen green beans in the crockpot, then topping them with a mixture of cream of mushroom soup, milk, parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper. Half of the French-fried onions are stirred into this mixture to soften during cooking. The dish cooks on low for 4 hours, allowing flavors to combine gently.

Just before serving, the remaining French-fried onions are sprinkled on top to provide a fresh crispy topping. This contrast of creamy and crunchy textures is characteristic. The casserole can be kept warm in the crockpot for up to 2 hours after cooking.

Leftovers store well for up to 3 days in an airtight container and reheat in the microwave or oven. To restore crispness to the onions, placing leftovers under the broiler briefly is recommended. This approach provides a hands-off method to create a classic comfort food side.
