Croissant Sandwich
Description
The Croissant Sandwich features sliced croissants filled with deli-style turkey and crunchy bacon as the main protein components. Fresh leaves of lettuce add crispness while slices of vine-ripened tomato and creamy avocado bring juiciness and a subtle buttery texture. Seasoning the tomato and avocado with freshly ground salt and pepper enhances their natural flavors. Spreading mayonnaise on the top half of the croissant adds a smooth and slightly tangy element, tying the sandwich together. This sandwich is assembled simply by layering ingredients inside the croissant halves and can be served immediately.
The combination of the buttery croissant and smoky bacon with the fresh vegetables creates a balanced mouthfeel that works well for lunch or a light dinner option. It can be served alongside a simple salad or chips. Leftover sandwiches should be stored covered in the refrigerator and are best enjoyed within two days to maintain croissant texture and sandwich freshness.
Ingredients
- 4 croissants sliced in half lengthwise
- 16 ounces turkey see note 1, deli style
- 8 lices Bacon see note 2, cooked
- 4 large lettuce leaves
- 1 large tomato sliced, vine-ripened
- 2 avocado halved, pitted, and sliced
- salt freshly ground
- black pepper freshly ground
- ¼ cup mayonnaise
Instructions
- Working with one sandwich at a time, or assembling all four simultaneously, arrange 4 ounces turkey meat on the bottom half of a croissant. Top each with 2 slices of bacon, a lettuce leaf, tomato slices, and avocado slices.
- Season the tomato and avocado slices to taste with salt and pepper. Spread 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise on the top half of each croissant and place on top of the sandwich.
Notes
- If preferred, leftover roasted turkey can substitute deli-style turkey for the sandwich filling.
- For cooking bacon evenly and with less mess, bake it on a rack in the oven at 400°F for 10 to 15 minutes until crisp.
- This recipe yields four croissant sandwiches, suitable for a small group meal.
- Store any leftover sandwiches in the refrigerator, covered, for up to two days to keep them fresh.
