Crunchy Baked Asparagus

Crunchy Baked Asparagus combines coated asparagus spears with a crispy topping of panko bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese. The asparagus is first dusted with flour, dipped in beaten egg, then coated in the flavorful panko-Parmesan mixture before baking. The result is a crisp exterior with tender vegetable inside, offering a satisfying texture and simple prep.

Description

This recipe begins by trimming fresh asparagus and preparing a coating station using all-purpose flour, beaten eggs, and a mixture of panko breadcrumbs and grated Parmesan cheese. The asparagus is rolled in flour to help the egg adhere, then dipped in the egg wash and finally coated with the crumb and cheese blend. The panko and Parmesan create a golden, crunchy crust after baking.

The asparagus spears are arranged in a single layer on a lightly greased baking sheet and baked at 425°F for 10 to 12 minutes, until the coating is crisp and golden brown while the asparagus inside remains tender. Black pepper seasons the dish for additional flavor.

This preparation is ideal as a side or appetizer, providing a crunchy contrast to the naturally crisp asparagus. It is straightforward, relying on baking for a lower-fat crispness compared to frying.
