Crustless Quiche
Description
Crustless Quiche skips the typical pastry base to highlight a custard filling made from eggs, cream, and flavorful ingredients like spinach, cheddar, and ham. This recipe uses frozen spinach that's thoroughly drained to prevent excess moisture. The mixture is poured into a greased, deep 9-inch pie dish and baked until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean, indicating the quiche is set and cooked through. The eggs and cream create a silky texture that supports the tender ham and melted cheese.
The flavor is nuanced by onion and garlic powders and lightly seasoned with salt and black pepper, allowing the cheddar's sharpness and spinach's earthiness to come forward. Letting the quiche rest before slicing helps retain its structure and makes for neat portions.
This dish can be served warm or at room temperature, making it suitable for brunch, lunch, or a light dinner. Free of a crust, it suits those seeking a gluten-free option or preferring less carbs. Adding your preferred crust is possible, but the filling stands well on its own.
Make sure to drain the spinach of all excess liquid to avoid a watery quiche. Baking times vary, so check doneness by inserting a knife to ensure it comes out clean. Adjust seasoning as desired before baking.
