Cucumber Martini

This cucumber martini blends muddled slices of fresh cucumber with gin or vodka and dry vermouth, creating a crisp, botanical cocktail with refreshing herbal notes. The garnish of thin cucumber slices enhances the presentation and aroma.

Description

The Cucumber Martini starts by peeling thin strips of cucumber to use as garnish and slicing the remainder for muddling. The cucumber slices are muddled with dry vermouth, releasing fresh, vegetal flavors that complement the base spirit, either gin or vodka. The mixture is then shaken with ice and strained into a chilled martini glass.

The result is a clean, cool cocktail with subtle cucumber character and dry herbal undertones from the vermouth. This drink offers a refined alternative to traditional martinis by adding fresh vegetable notes.

Garnishing with cucumber slices enhances both aroma and visual appeal. Adjusting the gin quantity adjusts drink strength. Optional additions include simple syrup or floral liqueurs for sweetness and herbs such as mint or basil for extra layers. Chilling the glass beforehand keeps the cocktail colder longer.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 4 lices cucumber
  • 3 oz gin 89mL, or vodka
  • ½ oz dry vermouth 15mL
  • cucumber for garnish

Instructions

  1. Use a vegetable peeler to get a few thin slices of cucumber. Just run it down the side of the cucumber, discard the first slice or two, you don't want that much peel. Set aside for garnish.
  2. Cut the remaining cucumber into ¼ inch slices, you'll need 4-6 for the cocktail. Add the cucumber slices to a glass.
  3. Pour vermouth into the glass and muddle the cucumbers. Transfer everything and add the gin to a cocktail shaker and add a handful of ice.
  4. Shake or stir then strain the cocktail into martini glass.

Notes

  • Chill martini glasses in advance to keep the cocktail cold longer.
  • Modify gin or vodka amount to adjust drink strength per preference.
  • Use a mason jar or jar with lid for shaking if no cocktail shaker is available; strain with a mesh strainer.
  • Add fresh herbs such as mint, basil, or thyme for additional botanical flavors.
  • Include a splash of St. Germaine or simple syrup for sweetness if desired.
  • Try lemon or lime twist in place of cucumber garnish for citrus aroma.
