Cucumber Raita

Report
Cucumber Raita is a cool, creamy yogurt-based dip flavored with grated cucumber, fresh mint, ginger, garlic, garam masala, and a pinch of salt and pepper. The grated cucumber is squeezed to remove excess moisture, ensuring the raita remains thick and creamy. This side dish refreshes the palate and pairs well with spicy foods or can serve as a light snack or dip.

Description

This Cucumber Raita blends plain yogurt with coarsely grated and drained cucumber, crushed garlic, grated fresh ginger, chopped fresh mint, and garam masala, seasoned with sea salt and black pepper. The preparation involves removing as much liquid as possible from the cucumber to maintain the raita's thick texture.

The combination of garam masala along with fresh mint and ginger offers warm, aromatic spices balanced by cooling elements from the yogurt and cucumber. The garlic adds a mild pungency, while salt and pepper enhance the overall flavor.

Traditionally served as an accompaniment to spicy Indian dishes, raita also works well as a refreshing dip or salad side. Variations include substituting cumin seeds for garam masala or using fresh coriander instead of mint for different flavor profiles.
