Curry Ramen from Netflix Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories

This recipe combines instant ramen noodles with warmed Japanese curry for a comforting fusion dish inspired by the Netflix series "Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories." The instant noodles are cooked and drained, then topped with savory curry, creating a hearty bowl that balances the spicy, rich sauce with tender noodles. It’s an easy way to repurpose leftover Japanese curry into a satisfying noodle meal.

Description

Curry Ramen from the popular show "Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories" takes instant ramen noodles and pairs them with Japanese curry. The instant ramen is cooked according to package instructions, usually including the seasoning packet, then drained to the desired consistency. The curry is reheated and thinned slightly with water to achieve a sauce-like texture ideal for pouring over the noodles.

The final dish features the noodles topped partially with the curry sauce, allowing the flavors of the spicy and savory Japanese curry to complement the salty, tender ramen. This combination upgrades leftover curry into a quick and satisfying meal with a pleasing texture contrast between noodles and sauce.

This dish is best enjoyed immediately while hot. It leverages convenience ingredients but results in a comforting bowl reminiscent of Japanese home cooking, with familiar flavors of shio ramen noodles and curry. Serving immediately ensures the noodles maintain their texture and the curry remains thick and flavorful.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 package instant ramen noodles (I recommend Sapporo Ichiban brand Shio Ramen—salt flavored)
  • Japanese curry I use my Japanese Chicken Curry, leftover, of your choice

Instructions

  1. Reheat 1 serving of the leftover Japanese curry of your choice. Add ¼–½ cup water to loosen up the curry.
  2. Cook 1 package instant ramen noodles according to the package instructions. I usually add the seasoning before touching the noodles.
  3. When the dried noodles look moisten, gently loosen up the noodles with chopsticks. Once the timer is up, serve the ramen noodles in a ramen bowl (or a large bowl).
  4. Serve the hot curry over the noodles. In the "Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories" drama, the curry was served over one-third of the noodles. Enjoy immediately!
