Date and Hazelnut Roasted Feta Cheese

Date and Hazelnut Roasted Feta Cheese features a creamy block of feta baked under a topping of chopped dates and hazelnuts, drizzled with olive oil and honey. The roasting softens the feta and caramelizes the nuts and sweet fruit, creating a balance of savory, sweet, and nutty flavors with a warm, spreadable texture. Served warm with baguette slices, it works well as an appetizer or snack.

Description

This recipe uses a whole block of feta cheese placed in a small baking dish, topped with a mixture of chopped Medjool dates and hazelnuts. The topping is combined with honey, extra virgin olive oil, and optionally fresh rosemary, then drizzled further with olive oil. Seasoned with salt and pepper, it is baked until the feta softens into a creamy texture and the nuts become toasted and plump.

The roasting brings out a natural sweetness and richness from the dates and honey, which contrasts with the tangy, salty feta. The texture is creamy and easily spreadable, while the nuts add crunch and warmth.

Serve warm alongside toasted baguette slices for spreading. The dish can be garnished with fresh rosemary and some additional chopped dates for a visually appealing touch.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 8 oz feta cheese not feta crumbles, block
  • 1 cup Medjool dates chopped, Natural Delights brand
  • ½ cup hazelnut chopped
  • 2 tablespoon honey
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil plus more, for drizzling
  • rosemary optional, fresh
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste
  • baguette for serving, slices

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 F.
  2. Add the feta to the middle of a small baking dish.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together diced dates and chopped hazelnuts. Drizzle everything with extra virgin olive oil, honey, and chopped fresh rosemary.
  4. Sprinkle date and hazelnut topping on and around the feta cheese.
  5. Drizzle the olive oil on top of the whole dish. Season with salt and pepper, to taste.
  6. Place the dish in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, until you have a soft and creamy feta and toasted, plump and browned nuts and dates. Keep a close eye on the roasted feta in the last five minutes, to prevent burning.
