Deep Fried Pickles

Report
Deep Fried Pickles are sliced dill pickles coated in a three-step dredging process of flour, egg wash, and panko breadcrumbs, then fried in hot oil until crisp and golden brown. The result is a crunchy, tangy snack with a moist, tangy interior that contrasts well with the crunchy exterior, commonly served with dipping sauces.

Description

This recipe uses sliced dill pickles, either waffle cut or regular, which are coated first in flour to help the egg mixture adhere, then dipped in beaten egg and milk, and finally coated in panko bread crumbs for a textured crust. The pickles are fried in vegetable oil heated to 375°F until golden brown on both sides, typically about 2-3 minutes per side.

The pickles develop a crispy, crunchy outer shell, while the inside retains the moisture and sourness of the pickles themselves. This combination of textures provides an appealing contrast. After frying, the pickles are drained on paper towels and can be salted to maintain crispness before serving.

These deep fried pickles are commonly served with dipping sauces such as ranch or spicy aioli, making them a flavorful appetizer or snack with sharp pickle tang balanced by the crunchy fried coating.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 25 dill pickles I used the waffle cut but either will work, sliced
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 2 egg large
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 cup panko bread crumbs
  • vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. You will need 3 small bowls. Place flour in one bowl, eggs and milk in a second bowl (beat them together) and then the Panko crumbs in a third bowl.
  2. Coat the sliced pickles in the flour, then in the egg mixture and then in the bread crumb mixture. Place on a separate plate until ready to fry.
  3. Continue to do this until all of the pickles have been coated.
  4. Add oil to a small saucepan. You’ll need about 2" of oil. Heat on medium heat until it has reached a temperature of 375 degrees F.
  5. Place the coated pickles in the oil and fry on each side until the pickles are golden brown. I cooked mine for approximately 2-3 minutes per side.
  6. Then transfer the fried pickles to a plate lined with a paper towel. Allow them to cool (they will be hot). You can top them with salt to keep them crisp at this time.
  7. Then serve with your favorite dipping sauce.
