Denver Omelette Waffles

Denver Omelette Waffles transform classic omelette ingredients into waffle form using a waffle iron. With sautéed green bell pepper, onion, and garlic mixed into beaten eggs, cheddar cheese, and ham, this recipe cooks into fluffy, golden waffles that combine savory flavors and a tender texture. The approach offers a novel way to serve an omelette in crispy, handheld portions.

Description

This recipe sautés diced green bell pepper, onion, and garlic until tender but not browned, then combines them with beaten eggs seasoned with onion powder and salt, shredded cheddar cheese, and diced ham. The mixture is cooked in a preheated waffle iron greased with cooking spray to ensure crisp edges. Cooking at medium level heat for 3-4 minutes yields fully cooked, slightly browned omelette waffles.

The result is a fluffy and moist interior punctuated by chunks of ham and vegetables, with a lightly crisp exterior from the waffle iron. This method allows the omelette to be served in a fun and portable format.

These waffles are best served hot and can be adapted by swapping in other vegetables, cheeses, or meats. The recipe makes about four waffles in a Belgian waffle maker or fewer in a smaller round waffle iron, providing versatile portion sizes.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 teaspoons olive oil or 1/4 - 1/2 tablespoon of butter
  • 1/2 green bell pepper diced
  • 1/3 cup onion diced
  • 2-3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/3 cup ham leftover, diced
  • 4 egg
  • 1/3 cup cheddar cheese shredded
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt fine ground
  • 1/4 teaspoon parsley dried
  • cooking spray for oiling waffle iron

Instructions

  1. Pre-heat waffle iron. For ours, we set it to 2-3.
  2. In a small sauté pan, heat olive oil or butter and add onion, garlic, and pepper. Sauté for 3-5 minutes until onions are tender, but not browned. Remove rom heat, and set aside.
  3. In a medium sized bowl, add eggs, salt, and onion powder and whisk eggs. Add shredded cheese and mix well.
  4. Add cooked onions, peppers, and garlic to the eggs and mix well.
  5. Give waffle iron a quick spray with cooking spray to grease.
  6. With a ladle or a serving spoon, spoon egg mixture in waffle iron, ensuring that you're evenly distributing the ham, pepper, and onions.
  7. Cook on level 2-3 for 3-4 minutes until eggs are fully cooked and slightly browned.
  8. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use a Belgian waffle maker for four waffles; smaller waffle irons yield fewer but larger waffles.
  • Substitute vegetables, cheese, or meats as preferred to customize flavors.
