Dill-Seasoned Oyster Crackers

Dill-Seasoned Oyster Crackers are coated with vegetable oil, dried dill weed, garlic powder, and kosher salt, then baked at a low temperature to absorb flavors and become a crisp, savory snack. Cooling allows the seasoning to set and the crackers to crisp fully.

Description

The recipe blends vegetable oil with dried dill, garlic powder, and kosher salt. This mixture evenly coats oyster crackers to infuse seasoning throughout. Baking at 250°F slowly crisps the crackers while allowing the dried herbs and spices to adhere and intensify.

After baking, cooling the crackers on the baking sheet for an hour helps them firm up to the right crunch. The result is a flavorful, herbaceous snack with garlic and dill complementing the neutral cracker base.

These crackers work well as a standalone snack or paired with soups and salads for added texture and savory notes. They can be stored in an airtight container once fully cooled to maintain freshness.

Neutral vegetable oil works best, but olive oil is also suitable though it may add its own flavor. Butter has not been tested and is not recommended here.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 - 2 Tbsp dried dill weed
  • 1 Tbsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 18 oz (2 - 9 oz each bags) oyster crackers

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 250°F. For easier cleanup, line a rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil and set aside.
  2. To a large mixing bowl, add oil, dill, garlic powder and salt. Whisk or stir to combine well.
  3. Gently stir in oyster crackers, so that each cracker is coated in the oil and seasonings.
  4. Transfer crackers to prepared baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes, stirring once halfway through baking.
  5. Let crackers cool on baking sheet for 1 hour, then transfer to an airtight container to store.

Notes

  • Neutral-flavored oils like vegetable oil are recommended; olive oil may be used but alters flavor.
  • Recipe has not been tested with butter, so it is not advised as a substitute.
