Donut Breakfast Sandwich

This Donut Breakfast Sandwich features yeast donuts sliced and toasted as sandwich buns, layered with cooked sausage patties, eggs, and melted cheddar cheese. The combination balances sweet glazed donuts with savory breakfast meat and cheese. Toasting the donut halves adds slight crispness to contrast the soft inside and helps hold the sandwich components together.

Description

The recipe starts by cutting glazed yeast donuts horizontally into halves (if using one per sandwich) and toasting them cut-side down to develop light browning and slight crust. Sausage patties are cooked in the same pan, followed by eggs cooked to personal preference, allowing flavors to meld.

Assembling the sandwich warm ensures the cheese slices melt from residual heat, binding the layers. Optional coarse kosher salt and black pepper can season the sandwich to taste. The mix of sweet, savory, and creamy textures delivers a rich breakfast experience.

This sandwich is versatile in portion size, using one or two donuts per sandwich, and pairs well with coffee or a morning beverage. It’s a filling meal where sweet donut bun contrasts the hearty sausage and egg filling.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 4-8 yeast donuts depending on if you are using 1 ow 2 donuts per sandwich, glazed
  • 4 sausage patties
  • 4 egg
  • 4-8 lices cheddar cheese
  • kosher salt optional, coarse
  • black pepper optional, coarse

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet or electric griddle and coat with cooking spray.
  2. If using one donut per sandwich, cut the donuts in half using a serrated knife. Toast the cut side of each donut until light brown and slight crusty. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same pan, cook the sausage patties and then eggs. Cooking time for both will be determined on how thick the sausage is and how well you enjoy your eggs.
  4. Assemble the sandwich while the eggs and sausage are still hot, expecting the residual heat to melt the cheese (1 or 2 slices). Season with salt and pepper, if desired.
  5. Enjoy and come back and let us know how you liked it in the comments or ratings!
