Ingredients

Servings
  • 4 lices Bacon diced, thick-cut
  • 1/2 yellow onion small dice, medium
  • 5 cloves garlic minced
  • 3 pork and beans 15 oz can, drained
  • 1 can 12 fl oz Dr. Pepper
  • 1/3 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1/4 cup unsulphured molasses
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp dry mustard powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Crisp bacon in a 10-inch cast iron skillet over medium-high heat, cooking to desired crispness.
  3. Once crisp, remove the bacon from the skillet onto a paper towel-lined plate and drain the fat in the pan, reserving 2 tbsp of it in the pan.
  4. Sauté the diced onions in the bacon fat over medium heat until the onions gain a golden brown color, about five minutes. Add the minced garlic, stirring frequently for 30 seconds until the garlic is fragrant.
  5. Add the pork and beans, dr. pepper, barbecue sauce, molasses, worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, dry mustard powder, and smoked paprika. Stir them well until everything is combined. Taste and season with salt and pepper as needed.
  6. Stir in the cooked bacon, then place the skillet into your preheated oven for 1 hour up to 90 minutes, until the sauce reduces into a thicker glaze.

Notes

  • Baked beans are really easy to store and even easier to eat the next day! Store the beans in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
  • To reheat, heat the beans in a microwave or low temperature oven in a heat-safe bowl or container until warmed through.
