Dr. Pepper BBQ Sauce

Dr. Pepper BBQ Sauce combines the sweetness and subtle spice of Dr. Pepper soda with savory ingredients like onion, tomato sauce, and Worcestershire for a thick, flavorful sauce. It simmers until reduced and thickened, creating a rich base perfect for glazing or dipping barbecue dishes.

Description

The Dr. Pepper BBQ Sauce recipe starts by sautéing diced yellow onion in oil until they brown slightly, adding a mild caramelized depth. Dr. Pepper soda and tomato sauce form the liquid base, sweetened further with packed brown sugar and balanced with apple cider vinegar and Worcestershire sauce to add tang and umami. Spices including kosher salt, paprika, and coarse black pepper round out the flavor.

Stirring in cornstarch at the beginning ensures the sauce thickens as it simmers over 30-35 minutes, reducing to about half its volume to concentrate flavors. The finished sauce has a thick consistency suitable for brushing onto grilled meats or serving alongside barbecue dishes.

This sauce can be used immediately while warm or cooled and stored in the refrigerator for later use, offering a convenient way to bring a distinctive flavor twist to backyard barbecue meals or sandwiches.
