Dump and Start Instant Pot Collard Greens
Description
This recipe layers trimmed and washed collard greens over a mix of chicken broth, Creole seasoning, sliced green onions, minced garlic, and a fully cooked smoked turkey leg in the Instant Pot. It cooks under high pressure for 27 minutes, after which the turkey meat is shredded and returned to the pot. The flavors of smoke, spice, and greens meld into a cohesive dish with tender, flavorful collards.
The result is a hearty side with a balance of smoky and spicy notes enhanced by the turkey and seasonings. The collard greens soften fully while remaining pleasant in texture. This pressure cooking technique significantly reduces traditional cooking times while preserving flavor.
This dish pairs well with Southern-inspired meals and can accompany fried or roasted meats. Adjust red pepper flakes and salt to taste for desired heat and seasoning.
Useful notes include pressing the collards down in the pot to ensure proper cooking space, and substituting smoked paprika if smoked meat isn't available. The recipe cautions against overfilling the Instant Pot to allow proper cooking volume. Preparation time excludes pressure build-up and release durations.
