Dutch Baby
Description
The Dutch Baby recipe begins by blending eggs, milk, flour, part of the melted butter, sugar, and vanilla to create a smooth batter. Separately, apples (or pears) are thinly sliced and sautéed in the remaining butter in a cast iron skillet to coat them with richness and soften slightly. The batter is then poured over the apples, and the skillet is transferred to an oven preheated to 375°F.
During baking, the batter puffs impressively around the skillet's edges, developing a golden brown color and a light, airy texture inside. The apples underneath add moistness and a mild fruity sweetness. Upon removal, the dish is finished with a squeeze of lemon juice and a dusting of confectioners' sugar, adding brightness and a touch of sweetness. The Dutch Baby should be served immediately to maintain its delicate puff and texture.
