Dutch Oven No Knead Bread

This Dutch Oven No Knead Bread delivers a crusty, artisan-style loaf made with simple ingredients and minimal effort. The dough requires only flour, yeast, salt, and lukewarm water, and after a long ferment, you shape and bake it in a preheated Dutch oven, which creates a steamy environment for a crisp crust and soft crumb. It’s a practical recipe if you want homemade bread with a rustic texture without kneading.

Description

The recipe starts by combining dry ingredients—flour, dry yeast, and salt—then adding lukewarm water to form a sticky dough. After mixing, the dough rests covered at room temperature for at least twelve hours, allowing it to ferment and develop flavor and gluten structure without kneading. Next, the dough is shaped on a floured surface and left to rise again while the oven and Dutch oven preheat.

Baking the dough inside the preheated Dutch oven traps steam, leading to a well-developed crust and tender crumb. The loaf bakes with the lid on for the initial period and then uncovered to brown the crust. Cooling on a wire rack before slicing allows the interior to set properly, yielding a satisfying texture.

This bread is well suited for simple accompaniment to meals or sandwiches. The recipe relies on fermentation time for flavor and texture, so planning ahead is necessary to enjoy fresh bread.
