Dutch Oven Sprite Chicken

Report
Dutch Oven Sprite Chicken is a savory one-pot meal combining bite-sized chicken breast, bacon, potatoes, carrots, and onions slow-cooked in a Dutch oven with lemon-lime soda. The soda adds a subtle sweetness and helps tenderize the chicken and vegetables during baking. The result is moist chicken with well-cooked vegetables in a lightly sweet broth infused with smoky bacon flavor, suitable for both oven or campsite cooking.

Description

This recipe begins by frying bacon pieces in a Dutch oven until crisp, then using the rendered fat to brown chicken breast pieces coated with seasoned salt and flour. After browning the chicken and removing it, onions, potatoes, and baby carrots are layered into the Dutch oven, topped with the browned chicken and bacon. Sprite soda is poured over the dish before covering and baking at 350°F for one hour. The soda aids in cooking and imparts mild sweetness which complements the savory ingredients. After baking, the dish rests briefly before serving.

The final texture features tender cubes of chicken and fully cooked, soft root vegetables with the crispness of bacon pieces dispersed throughout. The natural sweetness of the lemon-lime soda provides a subtle counterpoint to the savory seasoning, creating a balanced flavor profile. This recipe offers a hearty, flavorful meal in a single vessel.

This dish can also be prepared over a campsite by placing the covered Dutch oven in hot coals and cooking for 45 minutes to one hour until the chicken is cooked through and vegetables are tender. It yields six servings with approximately 407 calories each, making it a filling meal for families or groups.
