Earl Grey Milk Tea

This Earl Grey Milk Tea recipe offers two preparations: a cold bubble tea style drink with optional tapioca pearls and a warm version simmered with milk and tea bags. The cold version adds a brown sugar syrup base with muscovado sugar and tapioca, topped with brewed Earl Grey tea and milk over ice. The warm tea simmers the milk, sugar, and tea together for a creamy, lightly sweetened fragrant drink. Both emphasize the distinctive bergamot flavor of Earl Grey tea.

Description

The recipe provides instructions for cold Earl Grey Milk Tea including preparing tapioca pearls and a brown sugar syrup made from muscovado sugar boiled with water. The syrup is combined with cooked tapioca and ice cubes in glasses, topped with milk and strongly brewed Earl Grey tea. The tea can be brewed in advance for enhanced flavor. Alternatively, the warm Earl Grey Milk Tea is made by simmering milk with muscovado sugar and one to two Earl Grey tea bags until the milk takes on a lightly brown color, then divided into mugs.

Both drinks showcase the aromatic citrus notes from the Earl Grey tea balanced with creamy milk and rich brown sugar syrup or infused sweetness. The cold version optionally includes chewy tapioca pearls, popular in bubble tea. This recipe suits those who enjoy a distinctive flavored tea drink either chilled or warm, with simple ingredients.

An estimated calorie count is given for the warm milk tea, useful for dietary awareness.

Ingredients

Servings

Cold Earl Grey Milk Tea (Bubble Tea Style)

  • ½ cup tapioca pearls optional
  • ¼ cup muscovado sugar or dark brown sugar
  • 40 ml water
  • 1 bag earl grey tea
  • 200 ml water hot
  • 500 ml milk or non-dairy milk

Warm Earl Grey Milk Tea

  • 1-2 bags earl grey tea
  • 500 ml milk or non-dairy milk
  • 1-2 tbsp muscovado sugar or dark brown sugar

Instructions

Cold Earl Grey Milk Tea

  1. Prepare your tapioca pearls according to the package, if using.
  2. In a pot, combine the muscovado sugar with 40 ml of water and bring it to a boil.

  6. In two glasses, add the brown sugar syrup, tapocia, and a handful of ice cubes.
  7. Add 250ml milk of your choice to each glass.
  8. Top off with the earl grey tea.

Warm Earl Grey Milk Tea

  1. In a sauce pot, over medium-low heat, add brown sugar, milk, and 1 to 2 tea bags.
  2. Simmer for 5 minutes, or until the milk has become a light brown colour.
  3. Divide into two mugs.
